PHP + MySQL CRUD

Implement CRUD persistence with PDO, prepared statements, and validated identifiers.

Lesson

A PHP/MySQL CRUD feature should use PDO prepared statements for values and a consistent validation boundary for requests. Bind every dynamic value, scope mutations to authorized records, and check affected rows. Put database credentials in environment configuration and close or release resources predictably. Dynamic table or column names need a fixed allowlist because SQL placeholders bind values only. Further guidance Turn the feature into a sequence of small vertical slices: input, validation, domain behavior, persistence, response, and tests. Write acceptance criteria before implementation, protect each operation with authorization, and verify invalid input and failure cases. Document setup and keep deployment secrets out of the repository. Practice task: Create a fresh example for PHP + MySQL CRUD. Predict the result before running it, then change one input and explain why the result changes. Test a normal case and one boundary or invalid case where it applies. Compare your output with the example and note one rule you would use in a real project.

Code examples

PHP + MySQL CRUD
PHP
$statement = $pdo->prepare('INSERT INTO tasks (user_id, title) VALUES (:user, :title)');
$statement->execute(['user' => $userId, 'title' => $title]);
echo $pdo->lastInsertId();
Expected output
The identifier of the inserted task

Key points

  • Implement CRUD persistence with PDO, prepared statements, and validated identifiers.
  • Build and verify one complete feature at a time.
  • Test invalid input, permissions, and failure paths before deployment.
