PHP Projects · Lesson 8 of 8
Final PHP Project
Plan, build, test, and deploy a complete PHP application incrementally.
Lesson
Start a final project by writing user stories, data relationships, and security requirements before implementation. Build one thin vertical feature at a time: route, validation, business logic, persistence, and interface. Add automated tests for success, invalid input, unauthenticated access, and authorization failures; deploy with production-safe configuration.
A maintainable project includes a README, migrations, dependency lock file, and repeatable setup steps.
Further guidance
Turn the feature into a sequence of small vertical slices: input, validation, domain behavior, persistence, response, and tests. Write acceptance criteria before implementation, protect each operation with authorization, and verify invalid input and failure cases. Document setup and keep deployment secrets out of the repository.
Practice task: Create a fresh example for Final PHP Project. Predict the result before running it, then change one input and explain why the result changes. Test a normal case and one boundary or invalid case where it applies. Compare your output with the example and note one rule you would use in a real project.

Final PHP Project
PHP
// A small pure function is easy to test before wiring it to HTTP and storage.
function normalizeTitle(string $title): string
{
return trim(preg_replace('/\s+/', ' ', $title) ?? '');
}
echo normalizeTitle(' Final Project ');
Expected output
Final Project
Key points
- Plan, build, test, and deploy a complete PHP application incrementally.
- Build and verify one complete feature at a time.
