Capstone and certification preparation · Lesson 3 of 3
Certification study strategy and glossary
Review core concepts and use documentation-based practice without memorizing leaked questions.
Lesson
Prepare by connecting concepts to engineering decisions: model and prompt choice, governed data preparation, retrieval and embeddings, application orchestration, evaluation, tracing, safety, and production operations. For each concept, explain what problem it solves, what can fail, which metric reveals the failure, and what control reduces risk. Revisit weak areas using current product documentation and hands-on workspace exercises.
This course contains original instructional material and practice prompts; it is not an official Databricks course, does not reproduce exam questions, and does not guarantee exam coverage or a passing result. Certification outlines and product features can change. Check the official Databricks certification page for current exam objectives, format, policies, and recommended preparation.
Use retrieval practice rather than rereading alone: explain a design choice, predict its failure mode, and identify the metric or control that would detect it. Rotate between platform concepts, hands-on configuration, security scenarios, and evaluation tradeoffs. Keep a list of weak areas and revisit them with current official documentation because product capabilities and exam objectives change. This course’s questions and diagrams are original study aids, not official exam content. Avoid memorizing leaked questions; focus on understanding why one design is appropriate under a stated constraint.
Implementation drill: trace one representative request through the stages in the diagram. Write down what enters each stage, what output or evidence it produces, and which identity is allowed to perform it. Then test an empty input, an unauthorized request, a dependency timeout, and an unexpected result. For each case, state whether the application should retry, reject, abstain, or ask a person for help. Keep the observed failure as a regression example so changes to prompts, models, data, or code can be checked against the same behavior.
